Beat around the bush

 अर्थ - मुख्य विषय टाळणे, मुख्य विषयाबद्दल थेटपणे न बोलणे

कधी कधी आपण एखाद्या विषयाबद्दल थेटपणे बोलण्याचे टाळतो. ब-याच वेळा संकोचामुळे असे घडते. या क्रियेला Beating around the bush असे म्हणतात. 

Example:

Mohan: Hi! I want to have a word with you.

Milind: Please go ahead.

Mohan: Actually I need a favor.

Milind: Yes, tell me.

Mohan: Hmmm. My sister is getting married.

Milind: That's great! Congratulate her on my behalf.

Mohan: I needed help from you in this regard.

Milind: Stop beating around the bush and tell me clearly.

Mohan: Could you please lend me 50 thousand rupees?

आपल्या मायमराठीत यालाच तर 'ताकाला जाऊन भांडे लपवणे' असे म्हणतात! ताक मागायला जायचंय तर भांडं तर लागणारच ना. मग भांडं लपवून काय उपयोग?
